The Leatherman Kick is the smallest of a range of 3 tools produced by Leatherman, the alternative's being the Fuse together with the Blast.
Leatherman Kick - A Lightweight Multi Tool
The Leatherman Kick includes plastic set into the body of the multi tool which means it is far more comfortable to carry than the previous PST and PST II models. The Leatherman Kick is a very welcome addition, as people who have purchased and made use of a PST will attest to! The pliers have been updated to increase strength without increasing the multi tool's size or bulk, and appears to have made a difference- they are peculiar to look at for those used to other models, nonetheless this is a tool, not a fashion show, and they work.
The Leatherman Kick also benefits from a phillips screwdriver, can/bottle opener, two flathead screwdrivers, as well as a clip- point knife. The tool range may be minimal on this one, although remember, it is the smallest of the 3 models. The upside is that the tools (particularly the screwdrivers) seem to be slightly better than other multi's - the shafts are to some extent longer, giving little more versatility than you might expect, and an improved chance at hard to reach screws. It's a minor thing, but it really does make a difference - especially if it's the one tool you have at the ready and the screw is buried inside of something.
Leatherman Kick - Features Extended Screwdriver
There is no doubt about it, the Kick is a nice tool, but it does have it's drawbacks. Due to it's light weight, the Kick feels inadequate. As it is supported by Leatherman's 25 year warranty, it is a very sturdy tool, however in comparison to many other tools both larger and smaller, it doesn't appear to be quite as tough. Also, it may come across as a little small to those with big hands.
On an important note, despite the lack of numerous tools on this tool, it still suffers from Leatherman's infamous problem, tool clumping. Why can it be, that a handle with only 3 tools built in, all come out in the case that you try to get only one? With revised designs of tools, this negative point should be a forgotten memory.
The Leatherman Kick is good value for money, but not an option for a regular user or a bigger person. My suggestion is that it's better suited as a small tool for a lady's purse or as a child's first tool. It could be referred to as a "cute" tool for those folks that rarely need tools although like to be prepared.
